My Business Background

I am what I am…

Hi.  My name is Marsh Faber.

Marsh Faber photographer

It's what I do.

I write.

Much of my copy writing and editing work is for Mountain Studio, a developer of quality websites.  I guess that makes me the Mountain Wordsmith.  I’ve waxed eloquent on subjects from chocolates to moving vans to computers, hardly ever doing the same thing two days in a row.  I love my job!

How did I get here?  During 25 years in the marketing department of a Fortune 10 company, I wrote thousands of pages for the web, seminars, ads, magazine articles, editorials, brochures and press releases.  I received myriad awards—no big deal, actually, as I was later chagrined to discover high tech automatically gives an award to anyone who can correctly use the word myriad.

Here’s an example of my work:  As the Education Manager for HP Test & Measurement, I led a project to create a very large website and community through www.EducatorsCorner.com.   Since this multi-faceted project started in 1993, well in front of the Internet power curve, it was deemed a significant step in viral marketing and won several awards.  Although I’m retired, Educators Corner is still alive today.

My recent work has strayed significantly from high tech; in fact, in April of 2009, I collaborated with a friend to write a romantic adventure (fiction) novel.

My Personal Background:

Write, golf, shoot photos, fish, ski, shoot, write…

I come from a long line of communicators. ..

Mom was an English teacher, photographer, newspaper reporter and screen writer, with a stare that could burn a hole through dry ice.  At our house, mixing tenses was punishable by an extra helping of turnip greens, and the stare.  To this day, I can’t eat turnips.

Dad was a cinematographer, graphics artist, inventor, movie director and producer.  Dad gave me a feel for what’s possible, and an eye for creative visual composition.  At the age of 91, he still critiques my work.  I secretly pay attention.

With all that artistic talent running around the house, I probably learned more by osmosis than I did from my liberal arts coursework at the University of Denver.  By the way, I also hold a Master’s degree in engineering, but I don’t let it stunt my creativity.

I love fly fishing, skiing and golf.  Of these three, I’m least awful at skiing.  Other pastimes include photo art, mostly as a labor of love (see the cover of LAINY), and songwriting.  Although I purport to write songs, I’m mostly a lyricist, not a musician.  If I could only get Jimmy Buffet to listen to me for two minutes…
